WIKING continues working at Ørsted’s offshore wind farms

WIKING Helikopter Service has signed a contract extension with Ørsted to continue providing HEMS services for offshore wind projects in Germany.

WIKING will provide HEMS (Helicopter Emergency Medical Service) for the Borkum Riffgrund 1 and 2 and Gode Wind 1 and 2 wind farms, as well as for the planned Borkum Riffgrund 3 and Gode Wind 3.

The services will be provided from WIKING’s Wilhelmshaven and Emden bases with its LEONARDO helicopters / AW139.

The flight and medical crew will be coordinated by the company’s ORS rescue control center.

The 312 MW Borkum Riffgrund 1 and the 450 MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 wind farms are located some 57 km off the north-west coast of Germany.

Adjacent to the two wind farms, the planned Borkum Riffgrund 3 will comprise the new Siemens Gamesa 11.0-200 DD turbine and is expected to become operational in 2025.

Located some 45 km off the coast of Lower Saxony, the 582 MW Gode Wind 1 and 2 features 97 Siemens 6 MW turbines which have been in operation since 2017.

Gode Wind 3 will also feature Siemens Gamesa 11.0-200 DD turbines, with the installation of the 242 MW project expected to begin in 2023 and commissioning to be completed in 2024.
