Wilhelmshaven Service Port Provides Ideal Conditions for Offshore Wind Industry

Participants of the Wind Working Group, which is a part of the Wilhelmshaven Port Management Association e.V. (Wilhelmshavener Hafenwirtschaft-Vereinigung; WHV), agreed at their fifth meeting that the Wilhelmshaven harbor’s inner port has optimal conditions to become a growing service port for the offshore wind industry.

These favorable conditions include a large sea lock, adequate water depth, well-built quay edges and surfaces, as well as a high level of expertise in the service business. Specialized ships that work on the construction, repair and maintenance of wind farms, substations and cable routes are increasingly frequent in Wilhelmshaven, where they arrive to be repaired and upgraded.

According to the WHV, all this could result in higher employment rate. For the development of the inner harbor, all these positive aspects still need to be marketed more effectively, in order to awaken further growing interest of businesses.
