Wood Takes Advisor Role on Vineyard Wind

Wood has secured a contract for the role of technical advisor on the Vineyard Wind offshore wind project in Massachusetts, the U.S.

Under the four-year contract, Wood will act as the lender’s technical advisor on behalf of developer Vineyard Wind LLC, owned by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Avangrid Renewables.

The company will provide technical advisory services including an assessment of design, construction and operation strategies, as well as commercial arrangements to support the debt financing and tax equity funding process for the project.

“We are extremely proud to be awarded the role of technical advisor on Vineyard Wind,” said Bob MacDonald, CEO of Wood’s Specialist Technical Solutions business.

“The US offshore wind industry is poised for tremendous growth as we transition towards a more diverse energy supply mix. A milestone project of this kind will help support this rapidly  growing industry and we look forward to working closely with Vineyard Wind LLC as the project progresses.”

Vineyard Wind will feature MHI Vestas 9.5MW turbines located some 14 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard. The 800MW project will enter the construction phase this year and is expected to be operational in 2021.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU) recently approved long-term contracts for 800MW of offshore wind between Vineyard Wind and the Commonwealth’s electric distribution companies.
