Woodside charters Australia’s first LNG-powered marine support vessel

Australian LNG player Woodside on Tuesday informed it has signed a five-year charter with Siem Offshore of Norway for an LNG-powered marine support vessel.

According to the company statement, Australia’s first LNG-powered marine support vessel will be delivered to Woodside in 2017.

Siem Offshore noted in its statement that the vessel will operate as part of the Woodside fleet working offshore Dampier, Western Australia, adding that the contract includes two one-year extension options.

Australian company added that it is looking to expand the application of LNG-fueling in transportation in Western Australia.

Woodside Chief Operations Officer Mike Utsler said that, as Australia is on track to become the world’s largest producers of LNG, it is a natural step do develop dual-fuel capabilities for marine fleets in Australia.
