Worker dies after falling ill on Brae Alpha platform

A Marathon offshore worker passed away last Thursday after falling ill aboard the Brae Alpha platform in the UK sector of the North Sea. A day later two more workers were airlifted and taken to hospital due to illness.

In a statement sent to Offshore Energy Today, Marathon said the worker who passed away on Thursday had been airlifted from the platform due to illness and arrived at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary at approximately 11.15 hours on Thursday.

A day later, on December 1, two crew members were transferred to hospital from the Brae Alpha platform after reporting feeling unwell early on Friday.

Test results indicated that one crew member had symptoms of influenza and one crew member had no significant medical symptoms, Marathon said.

Marathon said that a medical review confirmed that the three cases cases were unrelated, adding “our priority is the safety and welfare of all personnel.”
