Yang Ming Turns Piraeus Terminal into Mediterranean Hub

Taiwan’s container carrier Yang Ming Marine Transport has agreed to make China Cosco’s Piraeus Container Terminal in Greece its transfer terminal for the Mediterranean and the Black Sea, according to Greek national news agency AMNA.

Arkas Hellas, a local shipping agency representing the Taiwanese carrier, told AMNA that one of Yang Ming’s 14,000 TEU container ships already called at the PCT on Monday, the first of 15 boxships to be used within the new service.

According to Arkas Hellas, the ships will make four departures to and arrivals from ports in the Far East per week, as well as two arrivals to and departures from major Northern European ports per week.

Yang Ming also plans to deploy ships of smaller capacity to the Port of Thessaloniki to cover the region of Northern Greece and the Balkans.
