20-year offtake deal with RWE in Texas LNG project’s bag

Business Developments & Projects

Texas LNG Brownsville, part of Glenfarne Group, has landed a new multi-year deal with RWE Supply & Trading, one of Europe’s energy companies, for liquefied natural gas (LNG) to be supplied from its export facility planned to be constructed in the Port of Brownsville, Texas.

The definitive 20-year sales and purchase agreement (SPA) will enable RWE Supply & Trading to get 1 million tonnes per year (mtpa) of LNG from the Texas LNG project, corresponding to approximately 13 cargoes of LNG and 1.4 billion cubic meters (bcm) per year of natural gas, respectively.

Vlad Bluzer, Partner at Glenfarne Group and Co-President Texas LNG, commented: “We welcome RWE, one of the world’s most versatile energy companies, as an offtake partner for Texas LNG and look forward to helping them fulfill the needs of their customers with clean, competitive energy.

“With the completion of offtake negotiations, Glenfarne is now focusing on finalizing the financing process as we advance toward a final investment decision in early 2026.”

Glenfarne, which claims that deliveries can be shipped by RWE to locations in Europe and worldwide, has now finalized the conversion of all of Texas LNG’s previously announced heads of agreements (HoAs) to fully binding long-term definitive offtake agreements.

Kiewit is in charge of the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of Texas LNG under a lump-sum turnkey structure. This development features the use of electric drive motors for LNG production, turning it into one of the lowest-emitting LNG terminals in the world.

The RWE agreement is said to provide a framework to monitor, report, and verify greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) from the well head to LNG loading to document how LNG cargoes produced from the Texas LNG terminal support the reduction of GHG emissions across the LNG value chain.

Jacob Meins, Chief Commercial Officer Origination at RWE Supply & Trading, highlighted: “I am pleased to welcome Glenfarne as a strong partner in our LNG supply. This partnership strengthens our international LNG portfolio and supports Europe’s security of supply.”

Glenfarne’s permitted North American LNG portfolio totals 32.8 mtpa of capacity, which is under development in Alaska, Louisiana, and Texas.
