600 STX Finland Workers Go On Strike

600 STX Finland Workers Goes for Strike (2)

About 600 workers from Finnish STX Shipyard staged a strike on Thursday to protest against the decision of order transfer to another shipyard, reports Agence France-Presse (AFP).

The order, now relocated to a STX Finland shipyard based in Turku, relates to construction of two ferries for Scandlines.

Metalworkers’ Union Head Riku Aalto said: “There’s only one vessel being built in Rauma. There will be practically no work here when this project is finished in the autumn.”

It is expected that the strike, of both workers and executives, will last until Monday.

Spokesman Jari Anttila said: “STX Finland seeks solutions to guarantee the future of the whole group, not only that of the shipyards in particular.”
