Denmark - New Bill to Clarify Responsibilities Regarding Maritime Education and Pilotage

Yesterday, Minister for Business and Growth Ole Sohn presented a bill clarifying the distribution of responsibilities between the authorities regarding the maritime training programmes and the pilotage area following the Government’s transfer of competences.

The bill, which the Minister for Business and Growth presented to the Danish Parliament, will introduce a number of amendments to the act on maritime training programmes, the act on the manning of ships and the pilotage act as a consequence of the transfer of responsibilities that has been carried out in the maritime field.

When the Government was formed, the maritime training programmes were transferred from the Ministry of Business and Growth to the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Higher Education. At the same time, the pilotage area was transferred from the Ministry of Defence to the Ministry of Business and Growth.

The purpose of the bill is to clarify the distribution of responsibilities between the relevant authorities and to create a favourable framework for the cooperation.

At the same time, provisions on the right of appeal will be introduced in the pilotage area corresponding to those otherwise applicable in the maritime field.
