The Netherlands: Nupas-Cadmatic Helps Customers to Retain Their Competitive Advantage

Nupas-Cadmatic Helps Customers to Retain Their Competitive Advantage

Nupas-Cadmatic has traditionally been used mainly as a 3D tool for the engineering of the ship’s hull, the steel structure and a ship’s piping and outfitting. Today’s software features more and more functionalities that add value from the very beginning of the design cycle.

With the new functions that increase speed and accuracy at this early stage of design Nupas-Cadmatic helps customers to retain their competitive advantage.

Modelling structures in 3D not only makes it easier to visualise the design: making optimum use of topology also makes the design drawings that you generate from the model highly reliable. Where it used to be the 2D design drawings that served as a guide, it is now the 3D model that forms the basis for the design.

This carries the big advantage of consistency in the ship’s design drawings. It is also possible to place components and accommodation elements in the 3D construction model. In the 3D model you will find issues that are not immediately apparent in a two-dimensional drawing. The sooner and more accurately you can predict various parameters in the design process, the more efficiently you will be able to complete it. That saves a lot of expense as early as in the draft stage.

The most important functions in Nupas-Cadmatic for the draft design:

  • 3D modelling of the structure based on topology
  • 3D Grid functions in which flexible reference can be made to length, breadth and height details
  • the placing of 3D components and accommodation elements in the construction model
  • functions for calculating the weight and centre of gravity of the design
  • the general 2D drawing functions and the Plantek (2D drawing symbols library functions) module
  • Layer Control and Object Control

Some new draft design functions in version 6.1:

  • the HiLTOP tool: High Level TOPology with the following new functionalities:

            reference planes

           Parametric definitions

3D Grid functions in which several grids can be used in a single project

  • the Copy Manager: tool that facilitates intelligent coping of construction elements whilst retaining
  • the comparison of various models in the eBrowser
