China: CIC Lixin Shipyard Completes Repair Works of MV Castle Island

In early June, 2012, CIC Lixin Shipyard has successfully accomplished the repair work of M.V. “Castle Island” on schedule. The vessel is owned by a Hong Kong shipping company and is a 29,000 DWT ocean-going bulk carrier.

Her initial main work scope was the treatment of hull & cargo holds treatment and the boiler repair. While, the shipyard’s staff and the owners’ representative found that there were large area of shell plate to be renewed in the progress of repair. The serious cracks appeared on propeller blades, and the propeller may be broken up in case it was not repaired in time. Since the vessel’s next loading port and schedule were fixed, the owners’ representative asked the shipyard a favor to have the vessel departed as per original schedule, regardless of the last-minute emergence of large amount of additional jobs. At that time, there was another conversion project carried out at the shipyard, which caused a labor force shortage.

Adhering to the business philosophy of “The ship owner’s requirement is what we always pursue”, the shipyard pressed forward vigorously, adjusted labor arrangement timely, organized the technical forces rationally and completed all jobs on schedule by continuously working overtime to ensure the vessel could depart in time as per owners’ request.
