VIDEO: Russia Moves toward Greater Shipbuilding Capacity

The construction of a new shipbuilding complex in Leningrad region was approved at a meeting of the Russian Agency for Strategic Initiatives’ Supervisory Board, which took place on November 14, chaired by the President of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.

The project is in its investment stage, since the project implementation was launched in 2012. This included acquisition of 20 ha of land, acquisition of relevant documentation and launching of construction of various shop units and other objects.

The stock of orders is formed for up to 2016, including the orders for technical fleet from RF Navy Ministry of Defense, fishing vessels and research vessels from the relevant authorities.

 MEASURES needed for the implementation of the Project:

  • getting the RF Government permission to create the artificial ground area without holding a public auction to receive the rights for the development of the design documentation and for the construction of the launching channel and outfitting quays
  • procurement of approvals from JSC “Lenenergo” for technological connection of power of the new complex
  • government and ecological expert review of the whole project

The planned commissioning of the new complex, which is expected to bring about  1 200 high technological jobs, is 4 quarter of 2014 and the complex should reach project  capacity  by 2018. The project is estimated to cost 3 billion rubles (circa USD 85 million) and since November 2013, 2 billion of rubbles have already been spent.
