Malaysia - NMIT to Produce Home-grown Maritime Professionals

The Netherlands Maritime Institute of Technology (NMIT) in Educity in Iskandar Malaysia, Johor is well-placed to produce competent home-grown personnel for the maritime industry, Bernama reports.

The institute began operations in May 2011 and will initially deliver diploma courses in Maritime Transport Management, Port Management, Shipping Management and Maritime HSSE (Health, Safety, Security and Environment).

NMIT offers a hybrid program. There are many places in the world that offer some the same kind of program can be attended in many other world places but not at the diploma level.

A mix of theory and practice, comprising visits and exposure, is what the students are provided with.

The diplomas that are to be obtained by NMIT will be awarded by Maritiem Instituut Williams Barentsz and Maritiem Instituut De Ruyter, renowned Dutch maritime training institutes under the University of Applied Science Hogeschool, the Netherlands.

NMIT will considerably contribute to nurturing well-trained maritime professionals in Malaysia to meet increasing demand for industry experts worldwide.
