MITSUI-MAN B&W Diesel Engine Produces 3.83 Mln BHP in 2012

Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES) has produced 3.83 million horsepower (BHP) by 187 sets of Mitsui-MAN B&W Diesel Engine at its Tamano Woks, (Okayama Prefecture) for fiscal year 2012, while the production in the previous year was 4.31 million horsepower (BHP) by 220 sets.

MES, since it first entered into technical agreement with B&W, Denmark (currently MAN Diesel & Turbo) for diesel engine manufacturing in 1926, has produced a total accumulated engine output of 80,000,000 BHP until November 2012 as a leading manufacturer of diesel engines. The annual production for this fiscal year is expected to reach 3.3 million BHP.

MES confirmed that its world first built-in type Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system on the world’s largest class test diesel engine (4S50ME-T), installed at its Tamano Works, satisfied the 3rd regulation of NOx emission.

This year, MES will carry out a demonstration test for an Electronically Controlled Gas Injection Diesel Engine (ME-GI), and will build an operation facility for the ME-GI engine together with its fuel gas supply system in the diesel engine factory in order to establish the supply system of the ME-GI engine.

Production Record and Forecast of Mitsui-MAN B&W Diesel Engine are as follows:

  • FY 2008 4.70 Million BHP by 214 sets
  • FY 2009 4.37Million BHP by 218 sets
  • FY 2010 4.18 Million BHP by 221 sets
  • FY 2011 4.31 Million BHP by 220 sets
