CSCL Eyes Major Boxships Order

Chinese box liner China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL), according to a statement announced on the Shanghai Stock Exchange last weekend, is about to order five 18,000 TEU containerships from an unnamed South Korean shipyard.

The company is ready to pay $140 million for each vessel for a combined sum of $700 million. So far three South Korean yards, Hyundai Heavy Industries, Samsung Heavy Industries and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering submitted their bids.

Further details on the deal will be revealed “after a firm contract is signed” said CSCL.
