Video: Celebrity Infinity Hits Pier in Alaska

The 2001-built Celebrity Infinity has continued its journey after it allided with a pier in Ketchikan, Alaska while it was trying to dock on June 3.

According to the vessel’s owner, the Miami-based cruise line Celebrity Cruises, the Celebrity Infinity “struck the pier due to inclement weather,” as the weather on scene was reported to be gusting at 45-miles per hour.

“Initial assessment shows minor scraping damage to the ship’s hull above the waterline, which our crew has been able to repair,” the company told World Maritime News.

There were no injuries reported on board the 11,778 dwt vessel or on the pier, and there were no signs of pollution at the site.

Since the incident, Celebrity Infinity has been cleared by authorities and departed Ketchikan, Celebrity Cruises said. The vessel continued on its itinerary and arrived to Vancouver on Sunday, as scheduled.

The cruise ship, which features a length of 294 meters and a width of 32 meters, sailed from Vancouver yesterday morning and is currently on its way to Icy Strait Cruise Port, according to the latest AIS data from Marine Traffic.

The US Coast Guard has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
