Norway: Ulstein’s Oceanic Vega Nominated As Ship Of The Year 2010

Seismic research vessel ‘Oceanic Vega’ from Ulstein has been nominated as ‘Ship of the Year 2010’ by the magazine Skipsrevyen.

“Once again, the jury is pleased about several exciting and innovative designs. The decision will be taken in about three weeks”, said juror Asle Strønen. The winner will be announced at the SMM exhibition in Hamburg on 8 September.

This is the fifth year that a ship delivered from Ulstein Verft is nominated as Ship of the Year. Three vessels from Ulstein Verft have received the Award earlier (the ‘Bourbon Orca’ , the ‘Normand Seven’, and the ‘Island Constructor’ (the latter awarded by magazine Offshore Support Journal). ‘Olympic Zeus’ was nominated in 2009.

To be nominated by Skisprevyen, the vessel must be of Norwegian design, built at a Norwegian yard, and owned by a Norwegian shipowner. ‘Oceanic Vega* is designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions in Ulsteinvik, constructed by Ulstein Verft in Ulsteinvik/Vanylven, and owned by Eidesvik Seismic Vessels, that in majority is owned by Eidesvik Offshore in Bømlo.
