Expresso’s ACE Submarine Cable Landing in Ghana

Expresso’s ACE Submarine Fiber Optic Cable is ready for landing on the shores of Ghana. ACE Consortium officials confirmed this information at the West and Central Africa Com Conference in Dakar, Myjoyonline.com reports.

The US$700 million submarine fibre cable is prepared to land ahead of commercial launch by the end of this year. The 17,000 kilometer cable had been divided into four segments, the first three, which ran from France, through the west coast of Africa, to Sao Tome and Principe had been tested and approved for landing.

The members of the consortium have a choice to do either a single or aggregated landing, however the single landing means 40gigabytes/second capacity would be available to that country at about US$25 million, but an aggregate landing means over 80 gigabytes/second capacity at more than US$50 million.

Expresso Telecom officials stated that the company had opted for aggregate landing, they would release some 64gigabyte/second capacity and increase it over time.

The only challenge that remains could be a very low consumption of the huge capacity available, but the officials say that the benefits out-weighted the challenges of the project.

ACE cable originates from France and run to South Africa, with landing stations in Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Canary Islands (Spain), Western Sahara, Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon, Sao Tome and Principe, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Congo, Angola and Namibian.
