Osiris Upgrades Falcon ROV

Equipment

In support of routine inspection and maintenance work at a Nuclear Power Station in the UK, Osiris Marine carried out in-house technical upgrades of the Falcon ROV.

The company installed a fibre optic umbilical that provided extended performance capability of 850m.

The addition of the fibre optic umbilical cable will increase the functionality of the Falcon ROV. The longer and more light weight fibre optic cable allows for more manoeuvrability when in flight, which gives the client more in project options. The light weight umbilical will also provide less drag during flight, which will make working on delicate and more complex inspection projects easier, Osiris wrote in a press release.

The Falcon is an inspection class ROV, owned by Osiris, and supported by Osiris’s in-house ROV team.

“Our ROVs are maintained to an industry-wide standard benchmarked with The Remote Systems and ROV Division of IMCA membership. To keep up with the industry requirements it’s essential that the ROV team know the assets inside out, which is where I feel we add great value to our ROV services,” commented Danny Rhodes, ROV technician.
