Modec takes delivery of Carioca MV30 FPSO from Cosco

Chinese shipbuilder Cosco Dalian, a subsidiary of Cosco Shipyard Group, has completed the construction of Carioca MV30 FPSO for Modec.

Cosco said that Dalian Cosco Shipping Heavy Industries officially delivered the 10^th FPSO for Modec, the Carioca MV30, on November 13.

The 332-metre-long Carioca FPSO – converted from the Flandre
VLCC – is the 15^th FPSO conversion project delivered by Cosco Dalian.

The FPSO will be deployed at the Sépia field, operated by
Petrobras, located in the pre-salt region of the Santos Basin some 250 kilometres
offshore of Rio de Janeiro in a water depth of approximately 2,200 metres.

Carioca MV30 is expected to stay under the lease on the
Sepia field for 21 years with production from Sepia expected to start in 2021.

The FPSO will be capable of processing 180,000 barrels of
crude oil per day, 212 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, 240,000
barrels of water injection per day, and has a storage capacity of 1,400,000
barrels of crude oil.

The living area onboard meets the technical standards of the
American Bureau of Shipping as well as Brazil’s NR and can accommodate 160
people at the same time. The project can operate continuously in offshore oil
fields for 26 years without docking for overhaul.

It is worth reminding that Petrobras awarded the contract for the delivery of the FPSO to Modec in October 2017. Keppel’s Brazilian subsidiary, Keppel FELS Brasil, was hired in July 2018 to build and integrate the topside module of the Carioca MV30.

Sofec will supply the spread mooring system while McDermott won
the EPCI contract for subsea risers and flowlines.

At the moment, the FPSO is currently anchored near Dalian. According
to the latest AIS data, the FPSO will be heading for Singapore where it is scheduled
to arrive in the first week of December.
