Teekay said its first liquefied natural gas carrier built in China, the Pan Asia, has completed sea trials off the east coast of Shanghai in the East China sea.

Pan Asia is the first of four 174,000 cubic meter Tri-Fuel Diesel Electric (TFDE) LNG carrier newbuildings to be constructed by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding for a joint venture involving China National Offshore Oil Corporation, China LNG Group, BW Group and Teekay.

The vessels, which are scheduled to deliver between September 2017 and January 2019, will each operate under 20-year time-charter contracts, plus extension options, with Methane Services Limited, a Shell unit, Teekay said.

Pan Asia’s steel cutting ceremony took place in April 2015, with the launching taking place in April this year.

The other three newbuildings, Pan Americas, Pan Europe and Pan Africa, are already under construction at the yard.
