DEME’s LNG-powered dredger launched in China

DEME’s liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered trailing suction hopper dredger Bonny River has been launched at COSCO’s Guangdong Heavy Industry shipyard in China, according to the Belgian dredging specialist.

The dual-fuel dredger has a capacity of 15,000 cubic meters. The vessels’ engine can either be run on LNG or diesel fuel.
Bonny River is equipped with an “extremely” long suction pipe, a large transport capacity and an additional heavy-duty rock draghead, DEME said on Wednesday in a brief statement via its social media channels.

DEME ordered the vessel at the Dutch shipyard Royal IHC back in 2016.
Bonny River is the third TSHD dredger in the DEME fleet equipped with dual-fuel engines.
DEME’s LNG-powered cutter suction dredger Spartacus is also being built at the Royal IHC shipyard.
