Another deal for Argentina’s LNG export mission ends up in NOV’s order book

Project & Tenders

U.S.-headquartered oilfield services player NOV has secured its second assignment on an offshore floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) project in the Gulf of San Matías, off the coast of Argentina.

Two months after being hired to provide the APL submerged swivel and yoke (SSY) system for the FLNG Hilli Episeyo, also known as the FLNG Hilli, which is expected to handle around 2.4 million tonnes of LNG per year, NOV’s APL will deliver a second such system to support Southern Energy SA (SESA) in accelerating Argentina’s offshore LNG export capacity.

The follow-up award is said to build on SESA’s ongoing FLNG development plans, reflecting the company’s confidence in APL’s subsea mooring and transfer solutions. The project will use Golar’s MK II FLNG design with a capacity of 3.5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa). With two FLNG units, Argentina is expected to export up to 6 mtpa of LNG.

NOV, which claims to be well-positioned to supply proven technologies that improve efficiency and accelerate the execution of FLNG projects, elaborates that the APL SSY is designed to provide safe mooring and uninterrupted gas transfer via subsea pipeline.

The system aims to reduce topside infrastructure, lower project complexity, and enable SESA to deliver LNG to the market more efficiently, addressing key customer challenges in offshore export developments by removing the need for a jetty.

Haavard Hjellseth, Managing Director at NOV APL, highlighted: “We are honoured to receive this second contract from Southern Energy SA and support their LNG export expansion in Argentina. Advanced technology, great collaboration, and trusting relationships are essential for complex projects to succeed.

“I truly believe all factors are present here, and we are looking forward to continuing to support SESA in these two critical projects for Argentina’s gas export program.”
