Wärtsilä lines up decade-long deal for 12 LNG vessels with MOL

Finnish technology group Wärtsilä has landed a multi-year lifecycle agreement for 12 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers (LNGC) with MOL Global Ship Management, a Singapore-based ship management company fully owned by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL).

Wärtsilä’s latest ten-year lifecycle agreement is designed to deliver operational support with reduced engine downtime and increased maintenance flexibility for 12 LNG carriers. While the assignment for three of the vessels was booked in Q3 2025, the remaining vessels were logged in the first half of 2025. Thanks to this agreement, MOL’s subsidiary is expected to benefit from increased reliability, reduced operational costs, and enhanced confidence in its LNG fleet.

The integration of the Finnish player’s Dynamic Maintenance Planning solution, alongside 24/7 remote operational support and proactive contract management, is anticipated to ensure flexible maintenance scheduling, extended service intervals, and lower spare parts consumption, guaranteed service engineers’ availability, and offer seamless oversight of vessel condition and performance.

In addition, this agreement will play a crucial role in supporting the sustainable operations of our fleet by helping us reduce emissions and operate more efficiently.”

Wärtsilä claims that its Expert Insight advanced predictive maintenance solution, powered by real-time vessel data, enables potential issues to be anticipated and addressed before they affect operations, thereby minimizing downtime and avoiding unforeseen repairs. In addition, the agreement is perceived to provide reliable field services that will keep MOL’s vessels operating reliably, efficiently, and sustainably throughout their lifecycle.

The 12 vessels are new LNG carriers that were delivered during 2024 and 2025, with each operating with two 6-cylinder and two 8-cylinder Wärtsilä 34DF dual-fuel engines and four gas valve units (GVU). Catalysators are fitted to reduce emission levels.

The latest deal comes months after Wärtsilä won another long-term lifecycle agreement for 14 LNG carriers with OPearl LNG Ship Management, a joint venture between China Merchant LNG, CNOOC, and NYK.
