Hard times hit Vietnamese fishermen

Fishermen in Vietnam’s central Quang Ngai Province’s Binh Son Commune are suffering huge losses due to a steep decline in seafood prices, as well as a severe reduction of their fishing grounds.

Although most fishermen are losing profit due to buyers offering 30-40 percent lower prices on their seafood catchments as compared to last year, squid fishermen are enduring the greatest hardship, with vessels shrinking down from 80 in 2008 to only 41 from March 2009.
