ABB installs electrical system on Brazil-bound FPSO

ABB, power and automation technology group, has installed a prefabricated solution for the electrical system on a floating production storage and offloading unit being built in Singapore.

Upon completion, the Modec-built FPSO Cidade de Campos dos Goytacazes MV29 will be deployed at the deepwater Tartaruga Verde and Tartaruga Mestiça fields, located about 112 kilometers offshore Macaé, in the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Petrobras, the operator of the field, will charter the FPSO under a  20-year deal.

The FPSO will be moored in 765 meters of water depth and will be capable of accommodating up to 62 risers and umbilicals.

The FPSO Cidade de Campos dos Goytacazes MV29 is the twelfth FPSO unit that Modec will provide for Brazilian fields, tenth for Petrobras, and the ninth collaboration between ABB and Modec.

When operational towards the end of 2017, it will be capable of processing 150,000 barrels of crude oil, compressing 176 million cubic feet of gas a day and will have a storage capacity of about 1,600,000 barrels. It will also be able to inject 200,000 barrels of water a day into the reservoirs.

ABB said on Thursday that all of these operations would be powered by the company’s electrical system supplied in the form of E-house, a modular structure that arrived on site with medium and low-voltage switchgear and transformers already installed.

The company added that the module weighs close to 1,000 tons and is equipped with lighting, heat tracing, fire suppression, and heating and ventilation systems.

Paul Singh, HUB BU manager of Oil, Gas and Chemicals business in Singapore, said: “The complete and timely delivery of our part of this project is a testimonial to our commitment to taking ownership of our projects, improving schedule and minimizing risks.”
