ACL Christens New G4 CONRO Ship in Liverpool

Atlantic Container Line (ACL), an American shipping company owned by the Italian Grimaldi Group, has christened the Atlantic Sea, its newest transatlantic combination container/roll-on roll-off (CONRO) vessel, in Liverpool.

The vessel is a part of the company’s new fleet of generation 4 (G4) CONRO vessels, which includes the Atlantic Star, Atlantic Sail, Atlantic Sea, Atlantic Sky and Atlantic Sun.

The G4 CONRO ships will replace the existing fleet of G3 vessels and double ACL’s transatlantic capacity, Ian Higby, ACL’s UK Managing Director, said.

Being built at China’s Hudong‐Zhonghua Shipyard, the new ships can carry 3,800 containers and 1,300 vehicles.

With a 28,900 square meters high and heavy roll‐on/roll‐off capacity, the G4 CONRO ships are said to be the largest of their kind in the world.

Calling at Liverpool twice a week, the new G4 vessels are registered in the UK.
