AGR’s Team Attends Leading Technical Conference (UK)

The expertise of AGR’s highly skilled reservoir evaluations team will be showcased at a leading symposium this week.

Tim Wynn, Lead Geologist, and Liz Chellingsworth, Principal Geophysicist, both based in AGR’s Aberdeen office, have been selected to address a prominent technical conference titled “Capturing uncertainty in geomodels”. Tim and Liz will be presenting case studies illustrating different approaches to handling Risk and Uncertainty in oil and gas field evaluations.

Drawing on their depth and breadth of industry experience, both geoscientists have been spearheading the risk and uncertainty forum within AGR’s Reservoir Management division. This includes developing methodologies, standards and guidelines for identifying and quantifying uncertainty in hydrocarbon field evaluations to ensure the key uncertainties are captured appropriately in the possible range of outcomes.

The central tenet to AGR’s approach is that one size does not fit all, a principle reflected in the versatility and flexibility adopted in their reservoir evaluations and integrated field studies. Each method is selected and tailored to the nature and maturity of the assets under review, ensuring an efficient workflow and thus adding value to the client.

On the first day of the conference Liz will present a case study, co-authored by AGR Principal Geologist, Pete Kane, exploring the theme of volume range assessment in an appraisal and development context where a slight difference in the interpretation of the data can lead to significant changes in dollar value. Tim will draw the event to a close on the second day with a paper, co-authored by Reservoir Engineer, Ed Stephens (also AGR) examining data constraints on reservoir concepts and model design and how to avoid common pitfalls associated with limited data sets.

The conference opens with a keynote speech by Mark Bentley, Training Director for AGR’s TRACS Training. Mark will introduce some of the human factors that come into play in uncertainty handling in a presentation called “Modelling for comfort”.

The event is organised by The Geological Society and takes place on December 11-12 in Aberdeen University’s Elphinstone Hall.

Tim Wynn, who heads up AGR’s Acquisition and Divestment (A&D) arm, will also be at the Prospex trade show in London on 11th December where he will be promoting the TRACS Evaluations service that was re-launched earlier this year. TRACS Evaluations is a banner for a range of services that support A&D activities such as Competent Person’s Reports, asset and portfolio valuations, due diligence reporting and reserves audits.
