Allseas to Build 2nd Single – Lift Vessel

Swiss – based Allseas has decided to build a second single – lift platform installation and decommissioning vessel.

The new vessel, larger than Pieter Schelte, will be capable of removing all platform topsides in the North Sea which are beyond the Pieter Schelte’s capabilities.

Besides decommissioning, the vessel is designed for worldwide installation of very large topsides. The topsides lift capacity will be 72,000 metric tons, exceeding the capacity of Allseas’ Pieter Schelte by 50%. The vessel will have a width of 160 m (525 ft ), whereas Pieter Schelte is 124 m (406 ft ) wide.

She will be operational in 2020.

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering won the Allseas’ Pieter Schelte project back in 2010. With a total building sum of over 1.3 billion Euros (approx $1.7 Bln) Pieter Schelte is the world’s biggest platform decommissioning and pipe laying vessel. Delivery of the vessel is expected to take place in the second half of 2014.
