Alpha Gas Orders Its Third LNG Carrier at DSME

Greek shipowner Alpha Gas has ordered its third liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier from Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.

Under the contract, which was signed on June 7 at this year’s Posidonia event in Greece, the 173,400-cbm vessel will be delivered to the shipowner in the first half of 2021.

The third unit is the option related to the shipbuilding deal for two LNG carriers signed between the parties in late March 2018.

The earlier ordered carrier pair will be built at Okpo shipyard in Geoje and will be delivered to their owner by the end of 2020, DSME informed. Worth USD 370 million, the duo will be fitted with the M-type, Electronically Controlled, Gas Injection (MEGI) engines.

Additionally, DSME said it secured shipbuilding contracts for two very large crude carriers (VLCCs) from overseas shipowners. These vessels are scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2020.

So far this year, DSME scored a total of 25 vessels worth about USD 3 billion, including 9 LNG carriers, 15 large crude oil carriers, and one special ship.
