Angola: Eni to launch Ochigufu and Vandumbu fields in 2018, 2019

Italian oil company Eni is working to bring online its Ochigufu and Vandumbu discoveries, which are part of the West Hub project offshore Angola, in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

In a statement this week, announcing its CEO Claudio Descalzi’s visit to Angola, Eni said that the Ochigufu and Vandumbu fields were currently in the execution phase and would be launched in the first half of 2018 and the second half of 2019, respectively.

The development will be done using water-alternating-gas injection wells and a new subsea pumping system that will be launched in the second half of 2018, adding 54,000 bod to current production.

The two fields are part of the West Hub project, Eni’s first in the country. The project has been producing oil since late 2014. It encompasses the development of the Sangos, Cinguvu, Mpungi and Mpungi North, Ochigufu, and Vandumbu fields. Of the six fields in the West Hub, only Ochigufu and Vandumbu are not currently producing.

The development project involves connecting FPSO N’Goma to the various oil deposits, one at a time. It covers five oilfields with a total of 30 wells, 17 of which are producers and 13 are injectors.

Eni also produces from the East Hub Development Project in Block 15/06 in Angola’s deep offshore with production taking place through the Armada Olombendo FPSO.

The Italian company has been present in Angola since 1980 through its subsidiary Eni Angola. Equity production amounts to 155,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

It is also worth noting that the President of the Republic of Angola, João Gonçalves Lourenço and the CEO of Eni Claudio Descalzi met in Luanda on Monday, November 6, to discuss Eni’s operational activities and initiatives in Angola.
