A&P Falmouth has employed a full time marine renewables business development manager, demonstrating the company’s commitment to working at the forefront of the sector.

Amanda Pound joined the company in 2010 as part of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with Exeter University, just days after finishing her degree. After working for two years as Marine Renewable Services Manager at A&P, she has now been appointed Marine Renewables Business Development Manager.

Amanda went back into education at the age of 28 after deciding on a change of career from the retail sector and gained a first class degree in renewable energy at the University of Exeter’s Tremough Campus.

She said: “I have really enjoyed my time on the KTP programme and would like to thank A&P Falmouth Ltd and the University of Exeter for their commitment to this successful project.

“It is a really exciting time for marine renewable energy in the South West, with the recently formed South West Marine Energy Park (SWMEP) and the first wave device deployed at the Falmouth Bay test Site (FabTest), the sector is beginning to move forward.

“I am now looking forward to taking on the challenges of my new role to promote and encourage growth in A&P’s and Cornwall’s marine renewable business.”

David Daniel, A&P Falmouth’s Commercial Director, said: “Amanda brings a wealth of academic and practical experience to the role which she will apply to enhance Falmouth’s growing reputation in the marine renewables business.

“The renewable energy sector is a priority for us and we have won many contracts in stiff competition with UK and other European yards. We are delighted to make this appointment at such an important time, Amanda’s role will help us strengthen our team and what we can offer to the industry.”

A&P Falmouth, which has more than 150 years experience in the shipping industry, is positioned on the south coast of the UK in one of the world’s largest natural deep-water harbours.
