Aquamarine to work on Songa’s Cat D rigs

Aquamarine Subsea has been awarded a frame agreement with offshore drilling contractor Songa Offshore for classing of high-pressure manifolds on Songa’s four Cat D rigs.

Aquamarine said that the duration of the contract was five years with an option to extend the deal for an additional five years.

The scope of the deal will see Aquamarine provide continuous classing of all high-pressure manifolds for the four Cat D rigs.

Typical work consists of an upgrade, exchange, and re-certification of HP manifolds components, such as valves, blocks, and spools.

This scope of work is part of Songa Offshore’s total program for continuous classing. The upgrade and re-certification work will be executed at Aquamarine’s Jørpeland facility and on the rigs during operation.

The Cat D rigs encompassed by the frame agreement are the Songa Equinox, Songa Encourage, Songa Endurance, and Songa Enabler.

The semi-submersible rigs were designed for year around drilling, completion, testing and intervention operations in harsh environments. All four rigs have been specifically built for and are contracted by the Norwegian oil giant Statoil.

It is worth noting that another company which will provide service and maintenance on the Cat D rigs is Finland’s Wärtsilä. The company signed a five-year technical management and services agreement with Songa Offshore for the rigs back in March.
