Australia: Surfers Paradise Beach Replenishment Set for April

Surfers Paradise Beach Replenishment Set for April

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate has dismissed inaccurate reports about the City’s ‘inaction on beach replenishment’.

Mayor Tate said public safety was the first priority and a plan for beach nourishment will begin as soon as weather conditions allow.

“Creating safe beach access, re-establishing damaged lifeguard towers and reducing scarping is the first priority and maintenance crews are already visible on our beaches making this happen,” he said.

“The plan to renourish the beaches will start as soon as possible. Timing is crucial and everyone knows that there was no point in doing this earlier as the money spent would have been washed into the ocean.”

Dredging and beach replenishment is scheduled to start in the first week of April in the Surfers Paradise area.
