The offshore wind farm turbine parts that sank last Wednesday, together with the barge they were loaded on while under tow in the Baltic Sea, were intended for EnBW’s Baltic 2 offshore wind farm.

The sunken barge was carrying 4 working platforms for the EnBW Baltic 2 wind farm, according to German utility company EnBW.

The impact of the accident is still under examination, however the company said it was planning to recover the parts once weather conditions allow it.

The barge was being towed to Kiel by tug Boesch when it sank some four nautical miles north of Prerrow Germany.

The sinking is said to had been cause by a leak that allowed for water ingress and subsequent capsizing.

The tug wasn’t damaged as it managed to release the towing line in time. Nobody was injured in the accident.

Nevertheless, it has been reported that all of the cargo sank.

An investigation into the cause of the leak will be undertaken by local authorities.
