Beerenberg nets Johan Sverdrup job with Aibel

Norwegian offshore services company Aibel has signed a letter of intent with compatriot services provider Beerenberg for work related to Equinor’s Johan Sverdrup P2 topside project in Norway.

Beerenberg said on Friday that the agreement has a preliminary estimated value of just under NOK 250 million ($28.9M). The contract includes scaffolding, surface treatment, passive fire protection, and insulation.

The work will take place in Haugesund and Beerenberg will man the project with mainly local workforce. The project will run from July 2019 until December 2021.

According to the company, planning and preparations for the project will start shortly while the main activity will take place in 2020 and 2021.

When it comes to phase 1 of the Equinor-operated Johan Sverdrup project, Equinor recently put into place the two final platform topsides, a bridge and a flare stack in an operation that took three days. With this milestone, Equinor concluded the installation campaign for the first phase of construction of Johan Sverdrup project. The two final platform topsides were installed using the heavy lift vessel Pioneering Spirit’s single lift technology.

The hook-up, testing and commissioning of the two final topsides will be followed by testing and ensuring that all four platforms – and the field center as a whole – function as a single unit. Completing the tie-back of the eight pre-drilled production wells on the field to the drilling platform will also come in addition to this.

The plan for development and operation for Johan Sverdrup phase 2 was submitted to the authorities in August 2018.

Aibel was in 2018 awarded a contract for the construction of the processing platform topside for phase 2 of the Johan Sverdrup development in the North Sea. Earlier in March 2019, Aibel cut first steel for the P2 processing platform for the project.
