Bohai Names Sovcomflot’s 2nd VLCC

On 21 February 2014, the naming ceremony for (Very Large Crude Carrier) VLCC tanker SCF Shanghai was held at Bohai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd, China.

The ship is built under the survey of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) and was ordered by ОАО Novoship.

SCF Shanghai is the second ship in the series. The lead ship Svet was commissioned on 17 November 2013. The series is built to the dual RS/DNV class. VLCC ships are the largest in the fleet of the Sovcomflot Group.

The festive ceremony was attended by Messrs Andrey Denisov, RF Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in China, Yury Tsvetkov, President of ОАО Novoship, DongQiang, Vice President of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), Li Tianbao, President of Bohai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd, Peter Vaniyukov, Director of ООО Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (Tianjin) and other public officials.

Natalya Denisova, the wife of the RF Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in China, became the ship’s godmother.
