Atlantico Sul Shipyard Starts Sea Trials for Suezmax tanker Joao Candido

On Saturday March 31st Atlantico Sul Shipyard (EAS) started the sea trails for the Suezmax tanker Joao Candido, built for Transpetro. The time period planned for the sea trials is two weeks.

At the end of sea trials, João Cândido will return to EAS for final adjustments and will be made for delivery to Transpetro,” said the president of EAS, Serafim Junior Augustine.

Vessel João Cândido is the first in a series of ten Suezmax tankers ordered by Transpetro in a deal estimated to be worth around USD 2.75 billion.

About 120 technicians are on board the vessel including the EAS staff, crew, representatives of the shipowners, manufacturers of various equipment that make up the ship and tax classification society American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).

The first phase of tests will be conducted with the ship moored (anchored). Overcoming this stage, the ship will travel to 40 miles up the coast (72 km) and will evidence an axis of 265 miles (477 kilometers) from Natal (RN) and Maceió (AL). The sea trials will include structural testing of cargo tanks and checking the operating conditions of the ship systems.

After the trials, the South Atlantic Shipyard will carry out routine adjustments, necessary for the delivery of thea vessel.
