Brokers: Hyundai Heavy On a Roll

South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has scooped several tanker orders over the past week, broker reports show, collecting contracts for up to seven ships.

Greek shipowner Kyklades Maritime Corporation has reportedly ordered two firm plus two optional tankers of 319,000 dwt, Allied Shipbroking informed.

The ships are valued at USD 81.5 million and will feature Tier II engines, according to the report.

Two more tankers of the same size have been ordered by South Korean Sinokor Merchant Marine. The value of the deal is said to range between USD 83-84 million. As disclosed, the ships are expected to feature Tier III engines.

Separately, Athens-based Olympic Shipping and Management S.A. exercised an option for one 319,000 dwt very large crude carrier at HHI, Asiasis said.

The ordering tally could bring the total value of the contracts up to over USD 280 million if all options are exercised.

Hyundai Heavy Industries hasn’t disclosed any information on the orders in question yet.
