Brokers: Oldendorff Carriers Adds Three Ultramax BCs

German shipping company Oldendorff Carriers has been tied to an order for three 62,000 dwt bulk carriers at Japanese shipbuilder Oshima Shipbuilding.

The Ultramax newbuildings are scheduled for delivery in 2020, based on the data from VesselsValue.

The en bloc order report, dated on November 15, did not include any financial details.

The company is yet to provide World Maritime News with a comment on the reported order.

According to the company’s website data, Oldendorff has 16 newbuildings on order, not including the latest order, with deliveries spread across 2017-2019.

The company embarked upon an ambitious fleet renewal program in 2014, ordering around 50 ‘eco’ newbuildings in China, Korea and Japan for delivery from 2014 onwards. The new vessels feature very low fuel consumption and a significantly reduced carbon footprint.

The company predicts that in 2017, these environmentally friendly vessels will make up 90% of the capacity of its fleet.

The shipping major operates a fleet of over 600 bulk carriers.
