BW Tulip completes 8th STS LNG transfer of Honningsvåg

BW LNG, a unit of the Singapore-based gas shipping giant BW Group, said its 173,400-cbm BW Tulip liquefied natural gas carrier hit an STS transfer milestone. 

According to a brief statement on BW’s social media, the vessel has completed 8 ship-to-ship (STS) liquefied natural gas transfer operation in Honningsvåg in Norway, transporting over 0.5 million tons of LNG in the process.

BW LNG further noted that the vessel’s partial reliquefaction system allowed for better boil-off management during the STS operations.

Russia’s largest independent natural gas producer, Novatek has used Honningsvåg as its location to complete LNG STS transfer operations, delivering Yamal LNG cargoes onboard Arctic LNG carriers and reloading them to conventional vessels for further delivery.

BW Tulip, the first of the series of three sister MEGI vessels BW ordered at South Korea’s shipbuilding giant Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), is operating under a long-term charter with France’s Total.

Total is a major partner in the Yamal LNG project, alongside Novatek and China’s CNPC and Silk Road Fund.
