Canada: Pacific Tidal Energy Development Committee Schedules Next Meeting

Canada Pacific Tidal Energy Development Committee Schedules Next Meeting

The next meeting of the Pacific Tidal Energy Development Committee (PTEDC) has been set for October 9, 2013.

SRM Projects Ltd. expects this to be pivotal as the agenda includes review of all the various proposed British Columbia tidal energy enabling initiatives and shortlisting of the most promising ones for detailed review and then final selection following.

The PTEDC is an initiative led by Rivercorp (the economic development arm of the City of Campbell River) with the goal of spearheading enabling initiatives that will promote the development of tidal energy related commercial activities in the Campbell River area. Marine Renewables Canada as well as representatives from First Nations, industry, academic institutions and government participate on the committee.

Enabling initiatives, also called “incubators”, are projects that provide support for pre-commercial technologies to help offset the challenges faced by the “first movers” in new industries. By design, these incubators typically involve a broad consortia of members who can all learn and benefit. Various public and private funding sources are accessed to give life to these important industry nurturing activities.

Since early 2012, SRM Projects has been a member of the Pacific Tidal Energy Development Committee (PTEDC).
