Cargotec Introduces Its Unique Process Automation Capabilities at TOC Europe

Cargotec introduces its unique process automation capabilities at this year’s TOC Europe exhibition in Antwerp, Belgium, on 12-14 June.

Cargotec SmartPort is a collection of pre-integrated process automation solutions from Cargotec, Navis and strategic partners, ensuring the best possible fit for any size of terminal. Together with fully automated equipment, Cargotec SmartPort forms the Cargotec automation offering, which is unique in the industry.

“Process automation is an accessible and a fast way to get immediate productivity improvements for a relatively small initial investment. The key to success is the seamless integration of the automation products, existing terminal processes and terminal operating systems. We offer our customers in-depth services to help evaluate and analyse their existing systems and processes and hence identify possible bottlenecks and areas for efficiency improvement. Even a partial adaptation of process automation increases productivity and equipment utilisation rate, improves safety and reduces the potential for manual errors,” says John Rosen, Director, Product Management.

Cargotec SmartPort features solutions for every area of a terminal:

SmartStack provides a real-time, accurate inventory of the terminal’s containers. This ensures that the terminal will operate as efficiently as possible.

SmartPath helps to optimise the travel of terminal tractors and straddle carriers. Job status updates and monitoring allow terminal operators to better utilise these assets.

SmartLifts improve operations between container handling equipment and trucks. Job list optimisation and automated job selection ensure that handling equipment is used as efficiently as possible.

SmartTrucks manages trucks in yard operations, providing real-time visibility of their movements and automatic updates for all of their work.

SmartQuay improves productivity during vessel operations. The system automates data capture for all container movements, automatically builds ship plans, and provides tools for managing traffic at the quay.

SmartFleet helps maintenance operations to more effectively support terminal equipment. The solution captures key information from all equipment, making it available remotely to supervisors, who will be able to maintain the equipment more quickly and more efficiently.

In order to offer integrated software solutions for terminal customers, Cargotec has partnered with industry leading technologies and companies serving marine terminal operators. “Cargotec’s partner programme, Cargotec Alliance, brings together selected third party technology vendors, including former Navis Star Alliance members, to develop complete solutions that automate the management of terminal operations with integration and implementation services. This gives Cargotec’s customers a direct access to the best of breed technology and latest solutions that provide measureable benefits to their business,” says Chuck Schneider, Vice President Operations, Integration & Automation at Cargotec.

Chuck Schneider will present the Cargotec SmartPort concept in Cargotec’s press conference on 12 June 2012 at 17:30 in Antwerp Expo, meeting room “Red”
