Chengxi Shipyard Starts MV Osakana Conversion

Chengxi Shipyard has announced today that the block erection within M/V Osakana’s conversion project has started.

Being the first of four general cargo vessels from Masterbulk intended for the Jumboising conversion, M/V Osakana’s conversion will include the following: installation of a ring block (13.5 meters in length, 32.26 meters in breadth, 21.0 meters in height, and 700 tons in weight) after cutting of the body at FR77-950; building of a hatch cover of about 90 tons and installation of a washing tank in the No.5 port ballast tank; along with laying of pipelines and cables etc.

The repair part entails about 350 tons of steel work. With the change of vessel’s longitudinal strength after the jumboising, reinforcement of the main deck, longitudinal hatch coaming as well as the bottom shell plates will follow.

M/V Osakana is scheduled to come to Chengxi for conversion in November and the second vessel MV Okiana will arrive at the shipyard in December.
