Chevron Initiative Powering Western Australian Energy Careers

Dozens of Western Australian students are getting a unique insight into a career in the energy industry thanks to an innovative new program at Chevron.

The inaugural Powering Careers in Energy (PCE) initiative is a partnership between Chevron Australia and five WA primary and high schools and incorporates LNG-related study within the students’ academic program.

Under PCE, 60 students from five primary and high schools are studying a curriculum of five units covering the science of the energy industry, essential skills and work requirements for a career in energy, as well as learning about Chevron’s work safety program.

PCE counts towards WACE graduation and is endorsed by the WA Curriculum Council.

Chevron Australia Human Resources general manager Kaye Butler said PCE gave students the ability to explore a broad range of careers within the WA LNG industry.

“Chevron recognises that a new generation of young minds will soon be discovering and shaping our world’s energy future, which is why we choose to invest in quality education and training programs,” Ms Butler said.

“We are partnering with Western Australian schools to deliver an integrated approach to talent and skill development.”

Hamilton Senior High School, Onslow Primary School, Exmouth District High School, Gilmore College and Pinjarra Senior High School are the first five schools to implement the PCE program.

A highlight of PCE is a five-day camp which includes visits to Chevron’s Perth Offices, Australian Centre for Energy and Process Training (ACEPT), the CSIRO Laboratory and SciTech.
