Chevron’s Gorgon LNG project begins cool-down

Oil and gas giant Chevron informed it commenced the cool-down of the LNG storage and loading facilities at its US$54 billion Gorgon project on Barrow Island in Western Australia.

The project entered final stages of commissioning systems before the start-up of Train 1 as the Chevron-operated, Asia Excellence LNG carrier delivered the commissioning cargo recently, Chevron informed in a statement on Friday.

Chevron Australia’s Managing Director Roy Krzywosinski said, “The commissioning cargo is essential for the final testing of critical systems and to efficiently cool down the plant prior to the start of LNG production.”

First LNG from the 15.5 mtpa facility on Barrow Island is expected in early 2016.

The Gorgon project is a joint venture between the Australian subsidiaries of Chevron (47.3 percent), ExxonMobil (25 percent), Shell (25 percent), Osaka Gas (1.25 percent), Tokyo Gas (1 percent) and Chubu Electric Power (0.417 percent).
