China: Chengxi Shipyard Delivers Fourth SUL Vessel to CSL

Chengxi Shipyard Delivers Fourth SUL Vessel to CSL

Chengxi Shipyard delivered the fourth 35,500 DWT Trillium Class self-unloading laker to the Canada Steamship Lines (CSL) on June 20.

The SUL vessel, named “Baie Comeau”, measures a Seaway maximum 225.6 by 23.8 metres, features custom hull design for increased cargo lift, EPA Tier II compliant main engines, automated cargo-handling equipment and the latest environmental and safety systems.

Self-unloaders are specialized ships equipped with onboard cargo-handling systems, enabling them to discharge without shore-based unloading equipment. Their rapid discharging rate, and reduced infrastructure and labour requirements, make this bulk cargo handling option an effective and competitive solution that helps keep costs down and minimize environmental impacts.

In total, CSL ordered six “Trillium Class” ships from Chengxi as part of its major fleet expansion program.
