China: CIC Changxing Shipyard Successfully Repairs Container Carrier M/V Carpathia

CIC Changxing Shipyard successfully completed the repair project of M/V Carpathia. The subject vessel belonging to a German shipmanagement company is a container carrier with a length of 222.14m, a width of 30m and a depth of 18m.

The main repair scope was to renew the foundations of M/E and A/E fuel oil coolers, replace the deformed frame of No. 3 portside deep tank & the partial section of cell guides of No.2, No.3, No.4 & No.6 cargo holds, remove 12 pieces of the hatch covers ashore, crop & renew the wasted area of the hatch covers and replace the water channels.

The production department arranged the repair schedule reasonably. The ship repair manager, supervisors, business representatives, the foremen and the subcontractors abided by the management concept ‘Honesty and Faith, Ship owners first’. They paid close attention to the schedule, controlled the working safety & repair quality and provided good service. The frame 87, 88, 89 iwo No.3 portside deep tank were required to be renewed because of the collision.

Since this was a job in a small space, the managers and staffs overcame the difficulty of working in a close & narrow room where the ventilation was quite poor and it was limited to erect staging for work. The shipyard successfully completed the repair project as scheduled.
