China: CIC Lixin Shipyard Completes Repair Works for Tug Lianhe Zhengli

On January 17th, the rescue and salvage tug Lianhe Zhengli entered CIC Lixin Shipyard for repairs. Since her fuel tanks No.2 & 3 were damaged, the repair task was the steel plate renewal round 20 square meters. While the departure date was set on 24th of Jan. by the owners, in order to perfectly complete this project within 7 days the yard organized all resources to deal with such urgent case.

As soon as the vessel moved alongside, the yard arranged the related specialists to inspect the situation on spot and worked out the scheme. Since the damaged places were located in fuel oil tanks, the shipyard formulated the explosion-proof & oil pollution prevention pre-proposal. During the repair, the yard found No.1 fuel oil tank was also damaged, which increased the repair workload.

The shipyard organized the staff to work over 48 hours to complete the increased repair task and overcame the shortage of labor force before the lunar new year holiday. The repair manager and supervisors followed the procedure everyday to ensure the hot work could be completed before the New Year’s Eve. Meanwhile, the QC department strengthened the field control and the security department practiced 24-hour inspection to control the explosion-proof and oil pollution prevention. With the joint effort of all staff, on 21st of Jan. the water pressure test for fuel oil tank was passed and the steel renewal was completed successfully which ensured the vessel’s departure on next day.
