China, Mozambique boost energy sector cooperation

CNPC, a Chinese state-owned oil and gas corporation, has signed a cooperation framework agreement with Mozambique’s national oil and gas company, ENH.

The Chinese side said on Friday that the two companies signed the agreement on Wednesday, May 18, in Beijing. CNPC Chairman Wang Yilin and Omar Mitha, Chairman of ENH, put pen to paper in the presence of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi.

The company said that, under the agreement, the two sides will reinforce cooperation in oil and gas exploration and production and natural gas processing and marketing. CNPC stated it will actively participate in Mozambique’s E&P projects and promote cooperation in gas field services.

CNPC has been participating in offshore gas E&P projects in Mozambique since 2013. Block 4 is CNPC’s first ultra-deep subsea natural gas and LNG project in East Africa and the largest individual project of Chinese enterprises in the country. CNPC said it was also actively involved in oilfield services and engineering construction projects in Mozambique, such as geophysical prospecting, pipeline construction, project contracting, and equipment supply.

The company was also host to President Filipe Nyusi who paid a visit to CNPC headquarters on Thursday and had a meeting with Wang Yilin where the two exchanged opinions on deepening oil and gas cooperation.
